AOC says League of Legends has prepared her for internet trolls
While United States President Donald Trump has at times sought to blame societal ills on video games, house representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is looking to further embrace them.
AOC took to Twitter to let her 7.5 million followers know that she reached rank Silver 3 in League of Legends during the quarantine.
My small quarantine accomplishment: made it to Silver III 😌— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 14, 2020
At the Silver 3 rank, AOC is now in the top 59.6% of the competitive League of Legends player base. It's an impressive mark for someone who spends most of their time working on political policy matters.
When asked which champion she plays in the popular MOBA, Ocasio-Cortez said that she mains Sona, a support mage.
"My role is to support people," she tweeted.
But AOC isn't a one-trick. She also plays Janna, Lux, and Morgana. Ocasio-Cortez also tweeted that she's working on her Lulu, which is currently "not ready for prime time."
"Sometimes I play Soraka and her ult is definitely the Medicare for All of the game," AOC tweeted to one follower.

While many people offered their congratulations for her accomplishment, including Cloud9 and TSM, there was also an abundance of trolls. People who didn't agree with her politics used the tweet as an excuse to bombard her with questions about her recent quotes, decisions on policy, and other things they felt she wasn't addressing properly.
But AOC stated that her League of Legends experience has made dealing with the "right wing" Twitter trolls even easier.
This isn't the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has expressed her love for video games. In May, AOC announced that she was visiting people's islands on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. She would even leave drawings and notes on players' town hall bulletin boards. Gaming communities don't have much representation in the upper echelons of politics, but Ocasio-Cortez is among the younger politicians changing that.
