Fans are ready for the TI10 Battle Pass special summer event
Dota 2 fans are starting to get impatient with Valve.
That’s often been the case to some degree, but they’re particularly frustrated right now over the long-awaited “special summer event” meant for inclusion in the The International 10 Battle Pass. While the battle pass is several weeks old at this point, fans are still awaiting the promised mini-game.
This has led many to hop on social media and call on Valve to get moving. with its implementation.
While players placing unrealistic expectations and demands on developers is common enough, Dota 2 fans have real cause to be frustrated. The TI10 Battle Pass only runs for a limited amount of time and the game modes don’t traditionally return after their first runs. Fans only get a brief time to enjoy the new game mode, and each day without it being launched is one less day to play it.
Making matters worse is the fact that the special summer event is likely going to be a key source of battle pass levels for many players.
The TI10 Battle Pass was a ready source of controversy in its first few weeks of existence as Valve seemingly hamstrung players’ pursuits of free levels and skins in numerous ways. This included a poorly received reinvention of the Immortal recycling system, a heavily altered wagering system, and more. Though these changes had various effects, many fans believe this was a concerted effort by Valve to make it more difficult to earn battle pass levels for free, forcing players to shell out even more cash in order to get the luxurious Arcana and Hero Persona skins that have made this year’s battle pass a booming success.
What will the TI10 Battle Pass summer event be?
The International Battle Pass has hosted a variety of different mini-games over the years. Siltbreaker was a top-down adventure game in the same vein as Diablo, while the Underhollow was effectively Dota 2’s take on a battle royale. Last year’s Wrath of the Mo’Rokai was poorly received, as it was just a slightly updated version of the Year Beast Brawl mini-game from years past.
So what will the TI10 Battle Pass’s summer event be? That’s unclear, but there are some hints in the description given on the official battle pass website.
“This summer, a mysterious power arrives to disrupt the war of the Ancients and no one, god, mortal, or monster alike, can resist its terrifying pull. Step away from the battlefield and into a labyrinth of trials and horrors. The one to master it all could be you,” the description reads.
This sounds like something in the same vein as the Underhollow, in which players went through a compartmentalized dungeon full of randomized challenges and loot in a fight to be the last team standing.
Questions on the new game mode should be answered soon. Hopefully.
