G2 Esports vs. Fnatic: 2020 LEC Summer Split betting analysis

Melany M. June 26, 2020

G2 Esports and Fnatic are facing off in week three of the 2020 LEC Summer Split in a highly anticipated rematch of the spring finals.

Fans are always looking forward to clashes between G2 and Fnatic. These are the two teams with the most titles in the LEC and the top performers at international events. Domestically, G2 always seems to be one step ahead of Fnatic and this time is no exception.

Fnatic gets too experimental

Fnatic started the split withstrong. Then week two happened.

Fnatic got a little too experimental with its draft by picking Soraka for Rekkles twice. Soraka has its advantages, like multiple heals and a skill that can silence the opponents, but choosing Soraka over a marksman takes away part of the damage for the team. Fnatic just didn't have enough pop to get kills, so the sustainability granted by Soraka meant nothing.

The team tried a second variation of the comp on Saturday, to no avail. Hopefully Fnatic learned its lesson and goes back to a more traditional composition, because that's their only avenue to victory against G2. Fnatic must keep control of the match and play at a slower pace, never letting G2 make the first move.

G2 bounces back

  • Top lane: Martin “Wunder” Hansen
  • Jungle: Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski
  • Mid lane: Rasmus “Caps” Winther
  • ADC: Luka "Perkz" Perković
  • Support: Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle

What else can be said about G2 that hasn’t been written yet? G2 bounced back from two losses in week one and secured two dominant wins in week two. All G2 needed was some practice and the team now looks ready to take over the competition. This is an aggressive squad that knows how to move around the map and fight.

With Perkz back in the bottom lane and Caps as the mid laner, it seems like G2’s weaknesses are gone. There isn’t a weak side of the map or even a small opening for opponents to exploit. Teams need to play an absolutely flawless game if they want to take a victory over G2 Esports. It’s not impossible, just extremely difficult.

Who will win between G2 and Fnatic?

Fnatic’s recent performance put the team at a clear disadvantage in this match. On Winners.bet, the odds have G2 at 1.57 over Fnatic’s 2.25. Unfortunately for Fnatic, there isn’t a simple way to defeat G2, it must be a combination of innovative strategy and luck.
