It didn’t take long for Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth to lose his spot as the most credentialed clutch players in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history after taking an indefinite hiatus from the game

According to HLTV, Richard “shox” Papillon has stepped ahead of the four-time major winner on the list of most clutch victories in CSGO. As of this writing, the French player has 660 clutch victories to his name compared to Xyp9x’s 648. The duo stand tall at the top of the rankings, with the current top five clutch players listed as follows:

  1. Richard “shox” Papillon (660)
  2. Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth (648)
  3. Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski (613)
  4. Robin “flusha” Rönnquist (587)
  5. Kenneth “KennyS” Schrub (586)

The tally for each player includes any situation where they are the sole survivor from their team, whether it’s a one-on-one scenario or a one-on-five. This tally solely speaks to the number of successful clutches, not the success rate in clutch situations. Notably, Xyp9x still has a 67.7% success rate in one-on-one clutch situations compared to shox’s lower 63.4%.

Though one can nitpick around those stats, shox certainly deserves to sit on this particular throne. The Counter-Strike veteran was a standout star in Counter-Strike: Source and has enjoyed steady success in CSGO.

He helped cement France as one of the strongest countries in CSGO during his time with Team LDLC and has since played on nearly every top team from the country. These days, he is playing with Team Vitality and pushing the team towards a spot in the ESL One Rio Major.

It will be interesting to see if shox can maintain that spot once Xyp9x returns to action, and if he can hold off challenges from up-and-coming players in future years. It’s unknown how much longer shox plans on playing, but with the veteran still contributing to a top, there’s no reason for him to hang up the mouse any time soon.
