In one of ESL’s Road to Rio Europe’s final games, a matchup between Vitality and NiP took a hilarious turn as the series first map on Mirage came to a close.

At 12-14, NiP went for the old school Tech-9 Rush B strategy, running into what surely would have been a slaughter. Both Vitality’s Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Cédric “RpK” Guipouy awaited them, seemingly ready for NiP’s rush and in the perfect position to counter it.

After boosting ZywOo on the B site plat, RpK readied an incendiary grenade that surely would’ve stopped NiP’s rush in its tracks. Unfortunately for Vitality, and especially for ZywOo, RpK never threw it. He had disconnected, leaving his model strangely with the Molotov still primed but standing there motionless under a window, doing his best impression of a statue.

Seeing ZywOo fall off plat, Fredrik “REZ” Sterner and Simon “twist” Eliasson jump out from window and hunt him down, landing right on either side of RpK. Somehow, neither REZ nor Twist see RpK, even though REZ actually caught a glimpse of RPK’s shoulder when he landed. Twist hides truck before being forced to smoke an incendiary thrown by Vitality from window, further keeping RpK hidden from view.

Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson hops off plat, almost shoulder checking RpK’s soulless model as Lekr0 dances around the default plant spot. Eventually, REZ catches a glimpse of RpK after the protective smoke cloud begins to dissipate and eliminates him with a few slow shots. When it’s shown from above, the ridiculousness of the round is even more apparent. We’ve gone ahead and recorded a whole host of different views, including one from every NiP player and even a few from within the bombsite. Take a look.

Considering that it almost worked here, maybe RpK and Vitality will look to pull out this AFK strat again in the future. As we saw with NiP, it’s doubtful that any of their opponents will ever expect it.
