Steven R. May 12, 2020

The group stage of the Epic Prime League has wrapped up and the playoffs will begin soon. The more interesting matchup now set is Virtus.pro vs. FlyToMoon.

The two teams have had an interesting rivalry over the last few months, a rivalry that has changed as often as the two teams' rosters. They now face off once again in a fairly high-stakes matchup that will set the stage for the end of the region’s biggest league right now.

Virtus.pro vs. FlyToMoon analysis, history

Virtus.pro continues to look strong

After a rough start to the season, Virtus.pro seems to be back in strong form. The Russian squad planted a flag in the upper echelons of Dota 2 by winning the ESL One Los Angeles European and CIS league and has looked solid. They haven’t been unbeatable, though.

The team has an 11-4 record since winning ESL One Los Angeles and has enjoyed solid roster stability over the last several weeks despite competing with a substitute:

  1. Igor "iLTW" Filatov
  2. Vladimir "No[o]ne" Minenko
  3. Roman "Resolut1on" Fominok
  4. Bakyt "Zayac" Emilzhanov
  5. Alexey "Solo" Berezin

VP went 4-2 in the group stage of the WePlay! Pushka League and 6-1 in the Epic Prime League group stage. The other loss came in the playoffs of the Pushka League, where they were handed a surprise loss at the hands of Team Liquid.

Despite this, Virtus.pro sits as one of the best teams in Dota 2. FlyToMoon does have a chance of taking a win over the favorite team.

FlyToMoon can do big things in Dota 2

Andrey "ALWAYSWANNAFLY" Bondarenko’s FlyToMoon squad has bounced from being a legitimate contender on the international scene to struggling at the lower levels. Where do they stack up right now? Well, that depends on the match they're in.

FlyToMoon has been able to score some impressive wins over the last few months, but hasn’t been able to consistently turn those into strong tournament placements. The team took first in Parimatch League Season 2, but also couldn’t advance out of the group stage of the WePlay! Pushka League. It won the Maincast Winter Brawl, but flopped in the qualifiers for Dota Pro Circuit events.

The current iteration of its roster came together in February, and currently stands as follows:

  1. Alik "V-Tune" Vorobey
  2. Bogdan "Iceberg" Vasilenko
  3. Victor "GeneRaL" Nigrini
  4. Ilya "ALOHADANCE" Korobkin
  5. Andrey "ALWAYSWANNAFLY" Bondarenko

The Epic Prime League has been one of FlyToMoon’s stronger performances over recent weeks, with the team going 5-2 in the group stage. That makes them one of the more interesting teams to watch in the league’s playoffs, but they still face an uphill climb against VP.

Virtus.pro vs. FlyToMoon Epic Prime League playoffs betting analysis

FlyToMoon has quietly been something of a kryptonite for Virtus.pro for most of the season. FTM has a winning record against Virtus.pro this season, coming out on top of a best-of-five in the grand finals of Parimatch League Season 2 and scoring a sweep in their most recent showdown in the Epic Prime League group stage.

One might think there's a good opportunity for a cheeky bet on FlyToMoon given how they will likely open as a clear underdog. While they certainly have the potential to take the win, that's likely bait. Though FlyToMoon is capable of getting the win, VP is clearly the better team by some margin. A bet on FlyToMoon is no less risky than any other longshot.
