JD Gaming and Top Esports are disputing the 2020 LPL Spring Split finals on May 2.

One of these two teams will collect its first LPL title. In a region where it’s all about Royal Never Give Up, Invictus Gaming, and most recently FunPlus Phoenix, JDG and TES are trying to make a name for themselves. JDG and TES are young organizations that can be highly competitive and have been close to getting the title in the past.

JackeyLove to the rescue of Top Esports

TES looked go through the regular season, but not good enough to win the title. Enter ADC superstar Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo. With JackeyLove in the lineup, TES went from a good team to an amazing team in a matter of a single week. It was one of those rare cases of instant synergy as the team comes together in no time.

JackeyLove elevated the team, but TES already had a strong base with top laner Bai “369” Jia-Hao, jungler Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan, and mid laner Zhuo “knight” Ding. One of the advantages for TES over JDG is that TES doesn’t need the jungler to make things happen. Knight and 369 are great at creating their own opportunities and fighting in their respective lanes.

The strength in independence from the solo laners allows Karsa to farm and scout the enemy jungler. Knight is the type of mid laner who likes to roam and create pressure elsewhere, even if he sacrifices some of his CS. Even if the solo laners fail in a team fight, JackeyLove is more than ready to clean up and take the kills. TES has clean transitions from the early to mid-game and knows how to effectively close games.

JD Gaming is counting on LPL spring MVP Kanavi

By the end of 2019, Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok found himself in the middle of a controversy that almost kept him from playing the spring season. The terms of Kanavi’s contract with Griffin and JDG were so outrageous, that the LCK had to create a new standard for contracts. Free from all the former ties that might have held him back, Kanavi decided to rejoin JDG for another year.

Kanavi is the heart and soul of JDG. Throughout the season, the jungler had outstanding performances that eventually earned him the title of MVP of the season.  JDG plays around Kanavi and counts on him to make things happen. Where Kanavi goes, the team follows, and while that tactic might have won them some games, it won’t be as effective against TES.

Through the mid game, JDG gets scattered and it can almost feel like they don’t know what to do next. The team struggles when it comes to side lane pushes and overall doesn’t create a lot of opportunities around the map. The strong point for JDG is that this is a team that can punish even the smallest mistake by the enemy team, as JDG boasts great mechanics and execution. TES must play a perfect game, or else JDG might take over.

Top Esports might surprise JD Gaming

Despite the results in the semifinals and the clear differences between the teams, JDG is favored with 1.61 against TES’ 2.17. The numbers are telling aone story, but TES might dictate a very different one on Saturday.

All eyes seem to be on Kanavi and what can he do against the TES team. This series won’t be decided by an individual, but by the teamwork and the performance of both teams as units. On paper, JDG might be the favorite, but a closer inspection puts TES in a better position to win the title, particularly as an underdog in betting markets.
