Fnatic secured a spot in the 2020 LEC Spring Split finals with a decisive victory over MAD Lions.

Fnatic is the first team qualified for the finals in the LEC. On Saturday, the series in the upper bracket between Fnatic and MAD Lions was decided in three games. Fnatic walked away with the victory and will have to wait one week before knowing its final opponent for the season.

Fnatic asserts its dominance in 2020 LEC Spring semifinals

Fnatic is enjoying a consistent playoff run and is now considered the favorite to take the title on April 19. The analysts expected this series to be close, given MAD posting a solid performance against G2 Esports in the previous round. Despite that, MAD didn’t stand a chance against a Fnatic that likes to play quickly.

High tempo has been the name of the game for Fnatic in the playoffs. Fnatic is wasting no time on the path to victory, pushing its advantages and forcing plays. That strategy led to mistakes against Origen, but Fnatic learned its lesson and was ready to play a clean game. MAD is the type of team that can punish mistakes and Fnatic respected that.

Throughout the series, MAD couldn’t find an opening to get back into it. The only instance where MAD looked in control was in the early stages of game two. At this point, MAD found enough kills to amass a significant gold difference.  Fnatic targeted top laner Andrei “Orome” Popa, the only member of the team without kills. MAD attempted to protect Orome and keep the advantage going, but this divided their attention and gave Fnatic enough room to take over the game.

Fnatic sealed the deal in game three. MAD fought back until the very end, but their efforts were in vain.

The season is not over for MAD, the rookie team still has a chance to make it to finals. On April 18, MAD will play the winner from G2 versus Origen to determine Fnatic’s opponent in the finals.
