New CSGO patch nerfs Krieg, buffs Deagle, and changes entire CT meta
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive just received its most game-changing update since its economic overhaul, with several underpowered weapons receiving buffs and the often maligned SG-553 getting hit with a big nerf.
The weapon changes have the potential to be meta-defining. The Krieg’s rate of fire has been lowered significantly, finally answering pleas from the community and pro players alike to nerf the Terrorist-exclusive weapon. The rifle’s rate of fire affects its power at spray ranges, offsetting its high armor penetration values.
In what is really another nerf to the Krieg, the CT-only AUG was both buffed and nerfed in the patch, reverting some of the accuracy changes implemented last year. The gun is now more inaccurate when from a standing, scoped position. On the other hand, it is also more accurate when unscoped.
Desert Eagle now deadly accurate after jumping, PP-Bizon and Tec-9 now viable
On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Desert Eagle is now more accurate after jumping. Players will be able to land headshots less than a second after landing. This buff, alongside those the other weapons below, reinforces Valve’s trend of lowering the impact of eco rounds on professional Counter-Strike that started with CSGO’s economy update.
Finally, both the Tec-9 and the PP-Bizon have gotten huge buffs. The Tec 9 is now much more accurate in general while also taking slightly less time to return to its base accuracy after moving.
The PP-Bizon might actually be a viable submachine gun with an increase to its armor penetration values. This might be a strong option for the CT side in eco rounds, after long struggling to find a good answer to the MAC-10.
Valve gave the CT side what might be the largest buff in the patch when it reduced the price of the M4A1-S by $200,dropping the cost to $2,900. This means that the underused rifle is now especially attractive to CTs deciding whether or not to take an eco round while also increasing the chance of a forcebuy.
Anubis heads to CSGO's competitive mode, Inferno's apps changed
In map news, Anubis was moved out of the unranked Scrimmage game type and into the Active Duty pool. Players can queue for the Egyptian-themed map right now. The developers also fixed a visual bug that would mirror the map in the reflection of Anubis’ water. Miscellaneous changes include an adjustment to texture clipping and accidental pixel boosts.
On Inferno, the wall between apps and lane is now bangable. The change only applies to the elbow room that leads to the balcony, making apartment now resemble the site wall in terms of penetration. The patch also adjusted the high dynamic range settings for the map.
Smaller changes were made to Chlorine and Overpass. Chlorine saw fixes to spots where the bomb could get stuck, as well a change in the default CT models.
Overpass’ dumpsters received new textures and collision models, had its lighting tweaked, lost a B site pixel boost, and had the background behind A site altered.
Finally, players can no longer see the feet of anyone hiding behind the truck on Mirage. Valve has now blocked off that line of sight from outside the alcove while also adjusting several clips around CSGO’s longest-standing map in the competitive pool.
CSGO devs add new graphics launch command
The improved textures that caused massive stutters and were removed in the NVIDIA patch fix several weeks ago have been added back in. To adjust for computers that cannot run the improved textures, or for those who don’t want to drop any frames, the option can be disabled using a new launch command. Players who want to turn off the new shaders should follow the steps below.
- Right-click on CSGO in the Steam Library
- In the dropdown menu, select “Properties” and then “Set Launch Options”
- In the provided space, type “-noubershader” without the quotes.
The patch notes say that only users on “very old Intel hardware” should use the option, claiming that it can cause stutters on newers machine.
