Fnatic is advancing to the semifinals of the 2020 LEC Spring Split playoffs after taking down Origen.

Fnatic has secured a pass to the semifinals and is one step closer to the LEC championship title. Fnatic will next face MAD Lions, the rookie team that took down G2 Esports on the first day of the playoffs.

Fnatic is creating its own meta in 2020 LEC Spring playoffs

In the series against Origen, Fnatic took a different approach to the draft with unique picks. The highlights of the day were a Zillean support in game one and Trundle support in game three, piloted by Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov. Fnatic paired up those picks with “fasting” Senna, a strategy where Senna buys a support item and gives all the farm to the support. These picks allowed Hylissang to split push and play a more aggressive style.

Origen went for standard meta picks and those proved to be ineffective against Fnatic’s plan. Fnatic dictated the pace of the series by playing fast in the early game and not slowing down until they destroyed the nexus. Origen couldn’t keep up with that tempo. The team was scattered and looked lost on the map.

Fnatic continues to be a creative team that is not afraid of going for new and interesting picks. The team is creating its own meta and is giving its players room for creativity.

While this is a fresh approach that gives Fnatic a new look, something about the team is not clicking. The team feels disjointed at points, with each member of the team playing their own game. When all the players group to fight, it feels awkward like each player has their own idea of what’s going on.

Fnatic is overeager, almost like it’s trying to prove that they deserve to be at the top. The team doesn’t feel confident, but desperate and that’s not the attitude that wins tournaments in Europe.

Origen dropped to the lower bracket and will play against the winner of Misfits vs. Rogue.
