LEC changes location of 2020 LEC Spring Split final for coronavirus
Riot Games is changing the location of the 2020 LEC Spring Split final amid the covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.
In some bad news for the Hungarian fans, Riot canceled the 2020 LEC Spring Split final in Budapest due to the coronavirus threat. The LEC is hosting playoffs all the way to the grand final at the LEC Studio in Berlin, Germany.
According to the announcement, the developer believes that it’s better to keep the event at a small venue given the current state of things. By keeping the event at the LEC Studio, Riot guarantees the safety of players, staff members, and the fans.
These are disappointing news for the fans in Hungary. The 2020 LEC Spring final was the first-ever League of Legend event of that size hosted in the country.
“While we currently plan to host a live audience in the Berlin studio, we will continue to monitor the situation and work with local health officials to ensure the safety of players and fans, and will revisit this decision if necessary,” Alberto "Tiroless" Guerrero, Head of Esports for Europe at Riot Games said.
The LCS spring final is still going to Texas
The LCS is moving forward with its plan to hold the 2020 LCS Spring finals in Frisco, Texas. All fan meetings are canceled and activities that include some type of physical contact are prohibited for the time being. The LCS said that it would be heavily monitoring the situation to keep the attendants healthy.
While the LCS is sure that the event is taking place on April 19, the plans could change overnight. There are already numerous confirmed cases of coronavirus in North America.
The good news is that the LEC and LCS regular seasons will proceed as scheduled. In China, the LPL is resuming activities on March 9, after a six-week break. The league is going online until the government allows public events. The LCK is going into hiatus and it’s unclear when it’s coming back.
