Dota Summit 12 announced for the week before ESL One LA Major

Beyond The Summit is hosting the 12th installment of the Dota Summit event series next week. Some might be surprised by this, wondering how they missed the announcement and how it crept up so quietly.

Don’t feel bad, though. Because in reality, BTS sprang this on everyone.

The popular tournament organizer revealed the LOOT.BET Dota Summit 12 on March 2. The event will run from March 10 to 13.

The reveal is a surprise on multiple levels. In addition to the fact that Dota Summit 12 was announced just eight days away from its start date, the event will feature an unusual schedule, starting on a Tuesday and ending on a Friday.

In addition to this, Dota Summit 12 will feature an apparent horror theme. The event was revealed with a teaser trailer that makes references to the SAW movie franchise and the Goosebumps television show. Though Dota Summit events often feature a theme, this one marks a significant departure from previous installments.

Dota Summit 12 sneaks in before ESL One LA Major

Though Dota Summit 12 is being announced on such short notice, most of the details have already been spelled out for the event.

The event will feature a $150,000 prize pool. It is not a part of the Dota Pro Circuit, therefore it will have no DPC qualifying points on the line. The prize pool distribution is not currently known.

Six teams will take part in the event, which has become something of a standard for Summit events in both Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Recent installments have been broken up into a round-robin group stage that includes all six teams. From there, the two most successful teams earn a spot in the upper bracket finals, while the remaining four are placed into a lower bracket situation.

The biggest question for Dota Summit 12 is which teams will take part. The event starts just a few days after the upcoming StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3, which likely precludes the eight teams taking part in that event.

That said, it ends immediately before the ESL One Los Angeles Major and takes place right in the same city. That means there could be an abundance of top teams in the city that might want to get some practice in on a competitive stage before the major starts.

Expect an official lineup to be revealed in the very near future.
