Evil Geniuses have tapped a famous paiN X player to stand in for ESL One Hamburg.

Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan failed to receive his visa in time for ESL One Hamburg 2018. The superstar mid player will miss his first LAN with Evil Geniuses in two years. Due to SumaiL’s absence, the North American powerhouse was forced to bring on a mid player from a former domestic rival.

Evil Geniuses announced on their Facebook page that American player Quinn “CCnC” Callahan will temporarily replace SumaiL for the duration of ESL One Hamburg.

“The last-minute nature of the delay meant that we needed to find a stand-in on short notice; we’d like to thank Quinn and paiN Gaming for making the process a smooth and amicable one. CCnC currently plays for pain X, and has previous experience playing for OpTic Gaming and The Dire,” the team said.

CCnC first drew attention in the pro Dota 2 scene while playing with North American team Friendship Dedication Love. The mix was originally created to compete in the open qualifiers for the Shanghai Major in 2016. He was also invited to The International 2017 as an analyst during the group stage.

Earlier this year, CCnC was a part of the OpTic Gaming roster that battled Evil Geniuses in the lower bracket finals of the Epicenter XL NA regional qualifier. Evil Geniuses got the better of CCnC as EG placed second and Optic Gaming ranked third, while compLexity Gaming went on to secure the qualification to the Epicenter XL tournament.

ESL One Hamburg will kick off on October 23 and will boast a total prize pool of $300,000.
