G2 Esports overcomes Rogue in tough game in LEC Spring Split

G2 Esports faced Rogue in the third week of the 2020 LEC Spring Split. Rogue was looking for an upset against the dominant team, but G2’s undefeated streak continued on.

All eyes were on the mid lane matchup during the draft phase. Luka “Perkz” Perković picked Sett to fight against Emil “Larssen” Larsson’s LeBlanc. Top lane went for a matchup highly focused on health regeneration, with G2 picking Soraka and RGE taking Aatrox.

G2 Esports vs. Rogue gets dangerously close

Rogue invaded early and found an open blue buff on the red side. Jungler Kacper “Inspired” Słoma then went for an early game gank in the mid lane, but Perkz escaped to safety. After healing up, Perkz saw an opportunity for first blood as Rogue’s bot lane pushed too far. He roamed down and picked up the kill.

This resulted in a burst of confidence for Perkz, which Larssen punished brutally with a solo kill. This set up Rogue to take the first Dragon, Rift Herald, and eventually the first turret in the top lane.

G2 countered Rogue’s focus on the top lane by quickly securing themselves a Dragon and stopping Rogue from advancing in their push. Heading into the mid game, neither team had a clear advantage. Rogue had more turrets, but G2 was ahead in the Dragon count.

From there, most of the action broke out around the mid lane. Multiple skirmishes occurred, but no true team fights happened to swing the game in either direction.

When the fourth Dragon spawned, RGE failed to see Perkz’ teleport deep behind the team. With Martin “Wunder” Hansen’s Soraka keeping Rasmus “Caps” Winther alive, Rogue finally fell for the first time in the match.

However, the blue-side team was quick to respond by taking the mid turret and quickly rotating to the hidden Baron. Perkz went for a flank once again, splitting Oskar “Vander” Bogdan off from the rest of the team.

Inspired caught out Caps in response, and Rogue turned the fight in their favor. Despite winning the battle, Rogue wasn’t able to convert it into any objectives.

Though Rogue was game throughout, the skill gap between the teams was evident in the fight for the Elder Dragon. With Wunder protecting Caps and Perkz’s Sett almost unkillable, Rogue melted in G2’s hands. That was what G2 needed to push into the opponent’s base and take their fifth win in a row at the 2020 LEC Spring Split.

Fnatic is getting the opportunity to stop their undefeated streak tomorrow, but again.
