Pros and casual players alike have seen the rise of Soraka in League of Legends over the past few weeks.
Riot senior champion designer August Browning announced that Soraka will be seeing a pretty big nerf in an upcoming patch when his followers asked about the popular champion on Twitch.
"It's just overpowered. That's what I think about it," he explained. "It's not like it's not cool. But Soraka top lane right now is like a 56% win rate. It's super giga powerful. So yeah, we're going to have to nerf it. We're going to have to nerf it pretty hard."
With Soraka being the "strongest champion you can play top" aside from Sett, it seems that Riot developers have some big changes in mind.
Browning did not specify what changes would be made to Soraka when she gets nerfed.
Soraka dominates the top lane in League of Legends
Soraka is considered OP at the moment thanks to her ability to sustain with low mana cost abilities that heal a pretty impressive amount. She is able to go even with most top lane champions because of her ability to negate any trade damage with her Q's self-healing and additional movement speed.
As she soaks up gold and experience, Soraka is able to hit inexpensive item spikes sooner than most champions. This allows for easy team fight initiations on top of her insane healing capabilities.
Even though Browning has not revealed what the nerf would be, League of Legends players have taken it upon themselves to discuss what they want nerfed on Reddit. It's actually a discussion that's been happening for over one year.
One popular suggestion was to nerf Soraka's base damage on her E early in games. With her E damage being a big reason for her effectiveness in the top lane, this might knock her back down to size and slot her into her intended role as a healing support champion.
Players on League of Legend's official forums weren't quite as friendly about the matter. Harder suggested nerfs included extended the cooldowns of both her Q damage spell and her W heal, while also increasing the cost of her healing abilities.
For now, teams like G2 Esports are having a good time with Sokara. But that all might change later this month if she is nerfed in Patch 10.4.
