Evil Geniuses’ first match of the Spring Split wasn’t too great.

Despite fans expecting them to easily defeat Dignitas, the new squad wasn’t able to live up to expectations. But the Spring Split has only just begun.

Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen sat down with WIN.gg after Evil Geniuses’ unfortunate debut in the LCS since 2014  to discuss the EG brand and his new teammates.

How were you feeling coming into the LCS season?

Svenskeren: I’m feeling pretty good. It feels good to be on a new team and I think we have a lot of potential.

Did you feel a lot of pressure being on the team that is bringing EG back to the League scene?

No, I’m not feeling too muh pressure. EG had a lot of bad teams. There’s not a lot of legacy to hold onto. I just view it as a new standalone team.

A lot of people predicted you guys would easily take the game from Dignitas. What do you think went wrong?

Dignitas is not a bad team at all. They have a lot of veterans that know how to play the game the correct way. We just made some mistakes. That’s typical for the first opening match.

They had their first match yesterday. They were one game up on us. We just had some nerves we have to work on.

I think we could easily beat them. We were in a winning situation at one point but kind of messed up. Definitely just nerves.

What have you taken away from the match?

Just play the game like it’s supposed to be played. We don’t have to do anything extra or anything fancy.

How is the new team getting along?

Our team is getting along pretty well. Me, Zeyzal, Kumo, we already know each other pretty well. It’s been an easy transitiion.

How do you feel playing with Jizuke and Bang?

They’re both really nice guys. It hasn’t been too hard getting to know them. It’s just knowing how to accomodate their playstyle. It’s been a fun experience.

What are your teams’ biggest strengths right now?

We have a pretty good mix of raw talent and experience. We have a lot of playmakers on the team willing to start a fight. That are not scared of going in. We definitely have some good strengths. Jizuke is able to play like a maniac… That’s a super strength.

What is your goal for the 2020 season?

My goal is to win the Spring Split. That’s definitely what we’re working towards.

I also want to get to know my team and work with my teammates well. My goal is just to win the whole thing.

How are you feeling about the new LCS schedule and the Spring Split’s importance on the overall season?

For me, it’s just about the championship title. People don’t care about the points anyway. It’s about lifting that trophy on stage and the rights to say you’re the best in the league.
