CSGO has 5 different ways to throw grenades, here's how to use them
Grenades are a massive part of Counter-Strike Global Offensive and learning how to use them is tough at first.
They change direction depending on how the player is moving when they throw them. They'll bounce in completely different directions with minor changes in angles. Worst of all, they have a habit of bouncing back into the player's face.
The worst part is that CSGO doesn't tell new players exactly how to throw grenades, let alone that there are multiple ways to throw them. For those who don't know, there are three basic ways to throw a grenade in Counter-Strike.
The 3 simple grenade throws in Counter-Strike
The first way is a simple left-click. The left-click sends the grenade in a long arc and at a high speed, making it ideal for long-range throws.
The second way is a right-click. This under-handed lob lazily tosses the grenade basically at the player's feet. The right-click is often used in conjunction with forward or backward movement, either giving the grenade forward momentum or slowing it down, possibly blinding a pursuing enemy.
The third way is an even mix of the two. Half throw, half lob, the player holds down both the left and right mouse buttons and releases them at the same time. It's a useful tool when a player needs the grenade to get over an object but fall and pop quickly once clear.
CSGO's secret grenade tips and how to use them
Little known to many players, there are actually five total ways that they can throw a grenade in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. There are the three above, but the final two are all about the in-between throw where a player holds and releases both mouse buttons at once.
If they start off holding both buttons but release the right one before releasing the left, the grenade will become a mix of a pure left-click throw and a double-click hold and release. The opposite is also true. Releasing the left mouse button before the right one gives the player a throw that winds up somewhere in between the double-hold and the right-click.
Some players don't even know that there are three different ways to throw utility in CSGO, but that's not their fault. Counter-Strike's tutorial is less than five minutes long and the only grenade requirement is for the player to bounce one into a box.
The tutorial doesn't even touch upon these features, never even mind showing how these can be used in firefights or in specific plays. With CSGO enjoying record-breaking player counts, Valve would be well-served giving new players a greater knowledge of CSGO's mechanics.
