In a recent interview with Ashley Kang, DragonX’s new mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon shared his feelings on the new team, why he decided to stay in the LCK, and his thoughts on the future.

Chovy debuted with his new team on the 2019 KeSPA Cup stage, winning two games against Chungam, and has since progressed all the way to the semifinals. But Chovy showed in the interview that the team is staying humble, and while he believes in eventual success, he is aware of the strength of his opponents.

Chovy belives DX can place high in LCK, but with early struggles

In the interview with Kang, Chovy shared the new roster is having lots of fun together and that he’s enjoying the new atmosphere. For a player that left Griffin after Riot Games discovered players’ contract to be illicit to join his coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho, who found himself in the center of the controversy, in DragonX, the new team is a good change of pace.

“The team atmosphere is very fun, we don’t have a single quiet day,” Chovy said in the interview. “There isn’t a day when the team house isn’t filled with laughter.”

Chovy has also shared that he decided to stay in the LCK as he wasn’t feeling confident moving overseas, with needed lifestyle adjustments presenting a worry that could result in a performance drop. As his free agency was announced late, he didn’t wish to take other mid laners’ spots in teams, and decided to join cvMax and his former team member Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon in DragonX.

When Chovy joined the team, he told cvMax they will be going to Worlds together this season. However, he isn’t feeling overly confident with the new team. With the roster having two rookies, the outcome could go either way. Chovy believes the roster might struggle at the beginning of the LCK 2020 Spring Split, but will come around to place high on the ladder by the end of the season.

“LCK is a place where teams can punish us any time we start making mistakes,” Chovy said. “I’m going to play the matches with a mindset that all teams are good.”

DragonX LCK 2020 roster:

  • Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon – Top
  • Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon – Jungle
  • Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon – Mid
  • Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu – Bot
  • Ryu “Keria” Min-seok – Support
