n0tail is banned from Twitch for using a homophobic slur
In a live stream on Christmas day, the Dota 2 star was picking his hero when he decided to inform his viewers that he should "stick to my faggot-ass summon heroes." Soon after, the Dota 2 community noticed that his Twitch channel had the dreaded "content is unavailable" message.
Many of n0tail's fans are in agreement that the two-time The International winner doesn't really care that he's been banned from Twitch. One person joked that he was "crying in $6.8 million," while another said he's "swimming in money while waiting for the unban."
n0tail was the highest earning esports player of 2019, winning over $6.88 million in prize money. OG won T19, which earned the team over $15 million. They won another $60,000 at the MDL Disneyland Paris Major. He's also earned money on Twitch, where's he's become one of the most popular Dota 2 streamers with 100,000 followers. The Christmas stream that got him banned had over 2,800 viewers.
While n0tail hasn't come forward with a statement, people are assuming it was for the homophobic slur he said on stream.
n0tail the latest streamer banned from Twitch for controversial language
The Dota 2 community is split over whether or not n0tail deserved the ban. Some commented that he what he said was "absolutely nothing," while others said it was "deserved" for using "gay" in a negative way multiple times. In general, Dota 2 fans felt that Twitch itself is a bad platform and joked that n0tail should just head to Mixer.
The disdain for Twitch has grown immensely in 2019 due to the streaming platform's inconsistent bans over the course of the year. While Twitch's community guidelines state that streamers can't use language that promotes "discrimination" or "harassment" based on "gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation," Twitch hasn't stayed true to its own community guidelines in some instances.
While some streamers have been banned for using racial slurs, others haven't faced a single consequence for continued homophobic language. This includes Bad Bunny, who was called out for saying racist and homophobic things repeatedly on Discord. Whether this has been due to an inconsistent application of its rules or a bias towards certain streamers, remains open for debate.
