Sylas to receive major overhaul from Riot in LoL patch 10.1

League of Legends season 10 is just around the corner and a number of gameplay changes are set to arrive in the game. Among them is an overhaul of Sylas that might help the champion break out of ELO hell.

The unchained revolutionary has been suffering for a few patches and has a dismal 45% win rate in both jungle and mid lane roles due to his weak early game and the high level of skill required to properly utilize his unique ultimate ability in team fights. Because of that, Sylas will be receiving some much-needed attention in the upcoming LoL patch 10.1. Riot Games Lead Gameplay Designer Mark “Scruffy” Yetter stated the changes will make him a stronger pick without overpowering his kit.

“The core goal here is to shift his mechanics in a way that open up some weaknesses for him in very high level play while making him a viable champ for the majority of players (it’s a buff overall),” Riot Scruffy said.

The LoL balance team wants to buff Sylas’ late game performance. This will be achieved by improving his scaling with increased damage, health, and cooldowns as the match progresses.

Additionally, the team wants to weaken Sylas’ potency as a jungler. Scruffy describes that his ability to be a solid flex pick makes him a bit too strong overall and the developers want to solidify him as a predominantly mid lane champion. Riot Scruffy says that Sylas’ E shield will be removed, but the damage on his passive will be buffed to compensate.

Overall, these tentative changes are designed to give Sylas less sustainability, but help him burst down opponents. This will ideally leave him as a solid mid option across multiple skill levels.

Riot hasn’t said when patch 10.1 will hit live servers but expect it to come around the start of season 10, which kicks off on January 8, 2020.
