ONE Esports Singapore Major revealed as the fifth DPC major

ONE Esports is quickly becoming a major player in the professional Dota 2 scene.

The tournament organizer is now in the middle of its Dota 2 debut with the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore, but is already set for a huge step up in its next event. That’s because they’ve been confirmed to be hosting the fifth and final major of the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit season with the ONE Esports Singapore Major.

As with the ONE World Pro Invitational, ONE will be partnered with PGL for the event.

ONE Esports Singapore Major date, location, prize pool information

Dota 2 community manager Wykrhm Reddy revealed the details of the Singapore Major on Twitter. The Singapore Major will run from June 20 to 28 in 2020. As the name suggests, the event will take place in Singapore. No venue was revealed for the event, but the ONE World Pro Invitational’s live portion will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and could be used once again.

While Reddy did not state this, the dates align with the previous guidelines set forward by the Dota Pro Circuit rules that were updated following The International 2019. Because of this, fans can likely expect the qualifiers to kick off on May 17 and run through May 22.

No details were given on the event’s accompanying minor, but previous dates have it running from June 11 to 14.

As with other Dota Pro Circuit majors in the 2019-2020 season, the event will feature a $1 million prize pool and will see 15,000 qualifying points up for grabs towards a direct invitation towards The International 2020. First place receives $300,000 and 4,850 qualifying points.

Worth noting is that the Singapore Major is set to be the fifth major of the Dota Pro Circuit season. The DreamLeague Leipzig Major will be the second, which is followed by the ESL One Los Angeles Major. The fourth major has not yet been confirmed.

Who is ONE Esports and what are they doing in Dota 2?

ONE Esports is a very new name on the esports scene. An offshoot of the ONE Championship mixed martial arts promotion, ONE Esports carries on its focus on putting together shows in southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea.

ONE hosted its first esports event in October with a Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 tournament in Tokyo, Japan. Its first Dota 2 event is currently underway with a strong lineup of teams that includes Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, and TNC Predator. The organizer is also slated to run another Dota 2 tournament in April, the ONE Esports Dota 2 Jakarta Invitational. The Singapore Major will be their first event that is a part of the Dota Pro Circuit.

Though it is surprising that Valve is getting behind a relatively new tournament organizer, ONE Esports' collaboration with PGL makes the prospect more appealing. PGL has worked closely with Valve for several years, operating multiple majors as well as assisting with The International itself.
