2020 LEC Spring Split start date revealed by Riot Games
Riot Games has announced that the 2020 LEC Spring Split will kick off on January 24. The league will be played in Riot’s studio in Berlin.
The second regular season of the rebranded European league will take place across nine weeks, with 10 teams competing for a spot in the playoffs. The winner of the 2020 LEC Spring Split will qualify for the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational, where it will represent Europe on an international stage.
All participating teams will automatically get a spot in the summer split.
G2, Fnatic, and eight more teams are back for LEC 2020
League fans are familiar with all the teams participating in the upcoming LEC season. No slot was taken or given to a new team.
The only new name in the league is MAD Lions, which replaces Splyce. The rebrand comes after OverActive Media decided to shut down the Splyce brand, which was followed by a significant overhaul of the team's roster.
The 10 teams participating in the 2020 LEC Spring Split are:
- Excel Esports
- FC Schalke 04
- Fnatic
- G2 Esports
- Mad Lions
- Misfits Gaming
- Origen
- Rogue
- SK Gaming
- Team Vitality

Mad Lions is not the only team with a new roster. During the 2020 offseason, a large number of players were transferred between teams. Misfits, Vitality, and Origen went through significant roster shuffles, and several players including Kasper "Kobbe" Kobberup and Daniele "Jiizuke" di Mauro moved to play for North American teams.
2020 LEC Spring Split tickets on sale now
Alongside the announcement of the LEC's return date, Riot also started selling tickets for the first four weeks of the season. Those who can’t spend their weekends in Berlin can tune in from home and catch the action on Riot’s official channels in a number of different languages.
Starting on January 24, games will be played at 6 p.m. CET on Fridays, and 5 p.m. CET on Saturdays.
