Pobelter rejoins Team Liquid for 2020 LCS as assistant coach

Eugene “Pobelter” Park, who recently revealed that he couldn’t find a team for LCS play, has joined Team Liquid as a positional coach for 2020.

In November, Pobelter shocked the League of Legends community with an emotional statement on Twitter. The former pro player shared that he couldn’t find a team to join and that for the first time since Season 4, he wouldn’t be playing in the LCS.

Many fans and pro players alike were outraged about Pobelter’s situation. Former teammate Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng shared his support on his stream and said that Pobelter was easily a top three mid laner in North America.

Pobelter becomes a coach for TL

Pobelter will return to the LCS, but this time as a positional coach, focusing on the mid and top sides of the map. Team Liquid shared a video welcoming Pobelter back to the team, and the video featured team owner Steve Arhancet.

“I get a text message from Eugene saying ‘Hey, I don’t think I’ll be on a team in LCS. I could go play Academy, I want your advice’. The advice that I gave him was I don’t think you should play in Academy, you’re way too good,” Arhancet said.

The owner then proceeded to offer Pobelter a job as an assistant coach in the team.

“I ended speaking with Cain and Dodo, we concluded he could be an amazing positional coach,” Arhancet said.

As a positional coach, Pobelter will be working directly with former teammates, including top laner Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong and mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, who replaced Pobelter in the team. Pobelter is an experienced player and can fluently speak Korean, so he fits right in with the current coaching staff.

“Everyone on the team seems really excited, positive, and supportive that I’m coming on as an assistant coach even though it doesn’t seem like the most orthodox move,” Pobelter said.

According to Arhancet, Pobelter has always felt like part of the Team Liquid family, so having him back made sense for the organization. Team Liquid will head to its boot camp after the new year, as the team is yet to incorporate new jungler Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen, formerly of Fnatic.
