A new League of Legends spin-off title has been revealed at The Game Awards.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story was revealed with a teaser trailer with former Marvel Comics artist Joe Madureira on hand to discuss it. He opened up that the title is a story-driven, turn-based RPG based in the League of Legends universe set after the Burning Tides event. Players will play as League champions and explore Bilgewater.

Beyond that, few details were given. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is being developed for PC and consoles, but it is unclear whether it will land on current-gen consoles such as the Playstation 4 or Nintendo Switch, or if it will be developed for the upcoming next-gen consoles. No approximate release date was given.

The trailer itself was narrated by LoL champion Thresh, but showed no gameplay and did not tease any other champions.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is being developed by Airship Syndicate, a developer based out of Austin, Texas. The studio previously worked on Darksiders Genesis and Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

Riot Games bringing new LoL games to market

One of the biggest stories surrounding the 2019 League of Legends World Championship was the reveal of several new titles in the 10th Anniversary installment of Riot Pls. Included in this was digital card game Legends of Runeterra, a mobile and console version of LoL in Wild Rift, and several unnamed titles including a fighting game and a tactical shooter.

That’s a lot on its own, but the weeks since have shown that this was just a start.

Last week, Riot Games announced Riot Forge, a program that will see the publisher work alongside outside development studios to create new titles within the League of Legends universe. The program will see new games created across a variety of platforms and genres, with Riot Games supporting the development in a number of different ways including marketing and design.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is the first game created under the Riot Forge label.

Though LoL fans are surely excited about this news, Riot has been investing a great deal of effort into establishing League as a cross-media property. In addition to video games, a number of comic book miniseries made by Marvel have been published, as has an official lore book. An animated series is also in the works.
