Cloud9 is reportedly considering making an offer on the ATK Counter-Strike Global Offensive roster just days after shipping its remaining CSGO players to Gen.G.
North American organization Cloud9 is considering the ATK CSGO roster as a potential replacement for its own recently departed players according to a report by DBLTAP. Cloud9 sent Timothy "autimatic" Ta, Damian "daps" Steele, and Kenneth "koosta" Suen to Gen.G on December 6.
Some fans worried that Cloud9 was abandoning its CSGO division, especially after the turbulent two years that followed the organization's win at the ELEAGUE Boston Major. After the win, Jake "Stewie2K" Yip and Tarik "tarik" Celek were sent via trade to MIBR, while AWPer Tyler "Sakdoodle" Latham officially retired from professional Counter-Strike several months later.
Following the roster shakeup, C9 tried several different combinations of players, but none of them accomplished much of note. Veteran players like Robin "flusha" Rönnquist, Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey, and René "cajunB" Borg all played for the squad over the past two years, but all moved on within months of joining.
Cloud9 has become a serious disappointment to fans who had held the organization in high regard in the North American scene. That goodwill has died away, with a recent Reddit post titled "Jack Etienne doesn't care about the CS:GO side of C9," posted as recently as five days ago.
An ATK to Cloud9 move could turn all of that around.
ATK surprises at EPL Season 10 finals, beats G2 and North
ATK is a solid CSGO squad, most recently making it to the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals in November. While they lost in the lower bracket finals to eventual champion mousesports 2-0, the team showed that can compete with a 2-0 win over North, a 2-1 win over Renegades, and a 2-1 win over G2 Esports.
ATK is also doing well in WINNER's League, where they currently hold a 7-0 record and have only given up double digit roudns twice. These two games saw ATK win against INTZ Esports 16-12 on Vertigo and Ascent Esports 16-13 on Inferno.
Other than those two matches, ATK is clearly at the ceiling of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's second tier. They just need a good foundation to propel them to the next level. The Cloud9 organization could potentially provide that foundation.
After acquiring Ricky "floppy" Kemery and Joshua "oSee" Ohm from Team Singularity in September, the team has had a number of high placements in tier-two tournaments. With Cloud9's organizational and monetary support, ATK has the potential to break into the top 15.
ATK's roster currently includes the following:
- Johnny "JT" Theodosiou
- Ian "motm" Hardy
- Joshua "oSee" Ohm
- Ricky "floppy" Kemery
- Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek
- Tiaan "T.c." Coertzen (coach)
