Schalke 04 has finally completed its roster going into League of Legends’ 2020 LEC season by signing Erberk “Gilius” Demir for the team’s jungler position.
Fans will not have seen Gilius since the 2018 Spring Split, where he competed on the starting roster for Team Vitality. Vitality ended that season in fourth place and Gilius was replaced by Mateusz “Kikis” Szkudlarek. He has also represented G2, Giants, and Unicorns of Love in his storied career.
Schalke 04 announced the signing on Twitter with a post on their website in which Tim Reichert, the organization’s chief gaming officer, revealed that they had long had their eye on the 22-year-old German jungler while he was playing for Ad Hoc Gaming in the German ESL league.
“We followed the development of Erberk with great interest and found that he made significant progress, especially last year. We want to build on this and further support Erberk in his development. We are convinced that he has the potential to hold his own in the LEC,” Reichert said.
This signing will actually be the second time the player has represented the organization, as he was on the main roster for the 2016 Summer Split and also the 2017 Spring Promotion tournament. Gilius will join Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu, Felix “Abbedagge” Braun, Han “Dreams” Min-koo, and former World Championships semifinalist Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou, who returns to the LEC fresh from his mandatory military service in Greece.
Both Gilius and FORG1VEN are known to be outspoken individuals regarding their teammates and fans will be eager to see if these two players can unite and focus their aggression towards their opponents on the rift.
The 2020 LEC Spring Split begins early next year after the conclusion of a busy offseason, with many big names in the League of Legends scene moving to different teams while other big names like FORG1VEN are returning to the rift.
