Budapest Five and Chaos EC cruise in WINNERS League Week 5
WINNERS League week five was full of action, with a Chaos Esports Club comeback against eUnited and a European match between MAD Lions and Budapest Five.
With Week 5 all wrapped up, fans are starting to get a good feel for which teams are strong candidates to come out on top in the playoffs.
This week, Chaos Esports Club overcame a 9-1 deficit to post an overtime win. Budapest Five didn’t need a comeback, but their special ingredient was a dominant defense against MAD Lions to undo the damage from their earlier loss to Ambush Esport.
Chaos EC comes back from eight down, wins against eUnited in overtime
Things weren't looking good for Chaos EC in their match against eUnited on Nuke. By round 11, the score was 9-1 in eUnited’s favor. Maxim "wippie" Shepelev and Cameron “cam” Kern swung a messy round into Chaos' favor to spark one of the most intense comebacks this season.
That round was a turning point for Chaos EC, setting up a huge second half for the team. eUnited couldn’t find a foothold on either site and Chaos just kept whittling away that early lead. Joshua “steel” Nissan brought Chaos to map point but eUnited settled down to force overtime. Ultimately, Chaos EC wouldn't be denied and took home the win in double overtime 22-20.
Budapest Five recovers by taking down MAD Lions
Budapest Five are one of the teams to watch in WINNERS League. The first half between Budapest Five and MAD Lions went back and forth, with Budapest Five’s T-side looking strong en route to an 8-7 lead at halftime. After the switch, Levente "fleav" Fodor and Ádám "kolor" Domoszlay took the five kills for the pistol round win.
MAD Lions’ repeated Ivy aggression throughout the second half simply didn’t work. Although the Lions kept things competitive, Budapest Five wrapped up their match on Nuke with a 16-11 score. Budapest Five now sits in third place in WINNERS League’s European standings. For the Lions, this game marks the fourth loss in a row.
WINNERS League Week 5 Play of the Week
The early Week 5 WINNERS League games saw a solid one-on-three clutch from eSuba’s Jindřich "Zedko-" Chyba. Stuck in Mirage’s B site with nowhere to run, Zedko- fought it out against three CTs and stole a round for eSuba.
With a full 40 seconds left, Arena Bulls clearly tried to push their advantage. But peeking a single T-player armed with an AWP one-by-one isn’t a recipe for success. It was a clean clutch, but the way Arena Bulls played the situation made it possible.
With the regular season of WINNERS League wrapping up soon, fans won't want to miss any of the action.
