Turkish jungler Can “Closer” Çelik and North American mid laner Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer have joined Golden Guardians as LCS starters.

Golden Guardians is starting to make moves in the offseason. The team recruited Closer and Goldenglue as the new starters for the LCS roster. Closer recently took part in the World Championship with TCL champion Royal Youth. Goldenglue joins the team after playing for Cloud9 Academy.

Golden Guardians sign new players for 2020 LCS

The decision to sign a jungler and a mid laner is surprising considering that Golden Guardians had strong players in those roles.

It remains unclear what’s the next team for jungler Juan “Contractz” Garcia. Right now, only Dignitas and Team SoloMid are missing a jungler.

Mid laner Henrik “Froggen” Hansen, who became the core member of the team in 2019, has erased any Golden Guardians-related information from his social media.

Closer was the core of Royal Youth and the best performing player for the team at Worlds. This is a jungler player with high potential that can certainly add his own style to Golden Guardians. The first order of business for Closer is to build his synergy with Goldenglue. In the current state of the game, the jungler-mid relationship is a key element in a team’s pursuit of success.

Goldenglue now finally gets a real opportunity to prove himself in the main stage. He previously took over the starting position in Cloud9, but he couldn’t fully claim the spot due to his irregular performance. Overall, picking Goldenglue over Froggen looks like a serious downgrade for Golden Guardians.

Golden Guardians is yet to make an announcement regarding the rest of its roster. Top laner Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell, AD carry Ian Victor “FBI” Huang, and support Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung are under contract with the team for at least one more year. Mid laner turned support Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun was allowed to explore his options, so he likely won’t return to the team.

The team must make a decision on FBI and Olleh on the LCS roster. The team could be in the market for a new support, or they could move FBI to Golden Guardians Academy considering the new Academy import ruling.
