According to a report by ESPN, Bae “Bang” Jun-sik will join Evil Geniuses' League of Legends team for the 2020 season.
The newest team in the LCS paid an undisclosed sum of cash to 100 Thieves for the former World Champion AD carry. He joins fellow recent additions Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen and Tristan "Zeyzal" Stidam, who were acquired by Evil Geniuses from Cloud9.
Evil Geniuses seems committed to putting together a superstar team for its return to League of Legends after five years away from the game. Svenskeren is the 2019 Summer MVP and Bang is one of the most popular players in the world. The team is sparing no expense on its roster despite dropping a sizable sum for the LCS franchise previously owned by Echo Fox.
100 Thieves loses top LoL star in Bang
100 Thieves has lost what is likely the best player on its LoL roster. Bang joined the team ahead of the 2019 LCS Spring Split and became the centerpiece of the lineup.
Unfortunately, the Korean couldn’t carry 100 Thieves to victory as the team expected. Constant roster changes had an incredibly negative impact and Bang never had a real chance to shine with 100 Thieves.
It is currently unclear who will replace Bang on the 100 Thieves roster. According to Wolf, the team may receive AD Carry Matthew "Deftly" Chen from Evil Geniuses. Deftly was transferred from Cloud9 to Evil Geniuses alongside Zeyzal and Svenskeren.
The trade will only happen if 100 Thieves fails to find a better replacement for Bang. 100 Thieves is going through drastic changes of its own, with the team now being helmed by former caster Christopher "PapaSmithy" Smith.
With the addition of Bang, Evil Geniuses only needs top and mid laners to complete its main roster. The free agent market is currently flooded with talent on this front, meaning Evil Geniuses will likely enter the 2020 Spring Split with something of an all-star team.
