100 Thieves return to Counter-Strike by signing Renegades
Nick J. October 31, 2019
100 Thieves has announced their first Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster since the organization left the game in 2018.
Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag made the announcement in a short Youtube video walking fans through the new CSGO roster.
100 Thieves acquired the roster of the established Renegades CSGO squad. The roster includes Aaron “Azr” Ward, Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad, Sean “Gratisfaction” Kaiwai, Jay “Liazz" Tregillgas, and Justin “jks” Savage. Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunović will return as coach.
Nadeshot also announced Chris “GoMeZ” Orfanellis as the General Manager of the new team. The roster has seen numerous successes recently. They placed fourth in the StarSeries & i-League CSGO Season 8 earlier in October, which was preceded by a top four placement at the StarLadder Berlin Major.
The team will also take retain Renegades ESL Pro League spot as they play for a place at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals November 15 to November 18. They will also retain Legend Status for the next CSGO major, should their roster remain stable.
It is unclear what the future holds for the Renegades organization in CSGO.
100 Thieves looking for fresh start in CSGO
This marks the return of 100 Thieves to the CSGO world after a disastrous foray into the game. In 2017, 100 Thieves signed the former lineup of Luminosity Gaming.
While the team was a formidable one that included members of the roster that took second place at the PGL Major Kraków, the team was forced out of the following major due to visa issues. Alongside this, AWPer Vito "kNgV-" Giuseppe was kicked off the lineup by 100 Thieves after using homophobic insults during an argument on social media.
This was followed by the release of the team, who reformed as Nao Tem Como but eventually scattered across multiple Brazilian organizations.
That was an unmitigated disaster for 100 Thieves, but Nadeshot has been teasing a return to CSGO throughout the year. This included acknowledgements on his personal YouTube channel, as well as a discussion on heading to the StarLadder Berlin Major to scout for talent.
Though many were expecting a hot new lineup to be revealed by the organization, 100 Thieves will likely be served well by scooping up an established team that is already qualified for numerous prominent events.
