Michael “shroud” Grzesiek has revealed the real reason that he made the move from Twitch to Microsoft’s streaming platform Mixer.

Shroud was one of the most popular streamers on Twitch with over 7 million followers on the platform. Earlier this week he made the shocking announcement that he was going to join Mixer. During his first Mixer stream he was asked the question of why he left Twitch in the new channel’s chat, and his response was short and to the point.

“I just thought it was the best move for my career, straight up. I just knew 100% this is it. This is my decision, this is the best decision, and I am doing it, you know what I’m saying?”

There has been no exact confirmation of the offer that Mixer would have made to shroud to entice him to leave Twitch, but estimates have ranged from millions to tens of millions of dollars. Microsoft is keen to make its platform a real rival and is clearly working to persuade Twitch’s biggest streamers to jump ship. What is also likely is that the ongoing payment structure is greater than Twitch was offering, alongside an initial sum for signing.

Time will tell if the move is proven successful, however at the time of writing shroud already has almost 350,000 followers and nearly 2 million views on his new Mixer streaming channel. With the platform offering free subs for new accounts, many of his biggest fans are likely to create accounts to follow him. It will also be a relief to those who have subscribed to his Twitch channel recently before the switch.

Having completed his first stream, shroud took to Twitter to thank his fans for following him and making the move a success:

“What an incredible first stream on @WatchMixer. Mind blown by the support of both mine and Mixers communities. You guys made this such an easy transition, excited for the future!” shroud said.

With shroud and Ninja on Mixer, the most popular individual streamers on Twitch are now Fortnite streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney, World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold, and FPS streamer Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm. It is unknown if these streamers have been made similar offers, but if Mixer continues to hunt after Twitch’s top talent these names may well be next on the list.
