Bjergsen remains with Team SoloMid, returns to LCS stage in 2020

Team SoloMid, one of the most popular and successful esports brands in the world, has announced the resigning of Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg as mid laner for their League of Legends team.

Bjergsen will remain the team’s mid laner through the end of 2021, and he will become the first player in the LCS to have an ownership stake in his team.

There was some debate as to whether Bjergsen would return to TSM after the team was reverse swept by Clutch Gaming in the North American regional qualifier, leading the renowned mid lane star to miss the 2019 World Championship.

The official TSM Twitter account tweeted the first part of this announcement in an attempt at trolling fans.

“Thank you Bjergsen,” the tweet said in the style of announcements typically revealing players to be leaving their teams.

One hour later, TSM released the second part.

“For re-signing,” the team tweeted with a link to the new video announcement.

In a statement released by TSM, CEO and founder Andy “Reginald” Dinh praised Bjergsen’s commitment to the team and his in-game abilities.

“It was essential for us to re-sign Bjergsen. Not only is he one of the best players at his position, he is a great leader,” Reginald said.

Bjergsen has been the mid laner for TSM since 2013 when he left Ninjas in Pyjamas. He was among the first European mid-laners to make the move to the North American LCS. TSM making the move to sign him was the start of a wave of talent coming in from overseas, which would later include several former World Champions.

For several years, Bjergsen has been arguably the best player in the LCS, but fans and pundits alike have more lately questioned both his individual form and the effect that he has on the team around him as TSM has faced intermittent struggles domestically and has seen a prolonged absence from the international stage.

In his own statement, Bjergsen called TSM his home. He talked about the growth of the organization over the past six years and shared his excitement for his future with the team.

“I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to not only continue my career here as a player, but also be a bigger part of the incredible future that lies ahead for TSM,” Bjergsen said.
