Faker backdoors SKT to victory over RNG at LoL Worlds 2019
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok guided SK Telecom T1 to victory against Royal Never Give Up with a surprising backdoor play. The team remains undefeated at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship.
The LCK champion is dominating the competition in its return to the international stage. SKT is making a case for themselves as the favorites to win the tournament. In the group stage, the team continues to dominate the competition with an aggressive style and new picks.
SKT plays the side lanes against RNG at LoL Worlds 2019
As expected, RNG played through the bottom lane, funneling resources into Jian "Uzi" Zi-Hao. The bottom laner was the difference-maker in team fights and the strongest member on RNG’s side.
SKT played a standard game, with Faker popping off on Twisted Fate. The mid laner opted for an AP build that is not that common on the champion.
The teams were even in gold and had the same number of neutral objectives. As the game progressed, RNG grouped to push while SKT defended the base with Faker or Kim "Khan" Dong-ha on split push duty. That strategy would pay off in the end.
Into the late game, both teams had full builds so they proceeded with caution. RNG decided to push through the bottom lane, trying to force a team fight or a reaction from SKT.
During that time, Faker pushed the wave through the top lane, smashed through the inhibitor in a matter of seconds, and started threatening the nexus owers. RNG couldn’t get back in time to defend their base. Khan and Park "Teddy" Jin-seong used their teleports to join Faker and the trio went on to destroy the nexus.
SKT is alone at the top of Group C. Coming into the tournament, SKT was considered a strong contender and now the team is showing that they are on a different level.
SKT returns to the stage on October 15 when they will face Clutch Gaming.
