The latest victim of Dota 2’s new, more aggressive banning system is pro player Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao.

The controversial Canadian Dota 2 player had one of his accounts banned after months of poor behavior, thanks to “excessive reports, failing to ready-up, and abandoning.” This offense has led to a six-month ban for EternaLEnVy.

He saw the message appear on-screen shortly after exiting a ranked game and seemed inexplicably stunned by the news. “What?” he exclaimed to his followers. “Wait, is this true?”

The Fighting PandaS player’s ban was captured live on stream, and quickly made the rounds within Dota 2 circles. EternaLEnVy remains a fairly popular personality among fans, but few felt any sympathy for him after.

EternaLEnVy spoke out on Reddit about his ban, discussing what led up to his ban.

“I started at 9k Conduct summary somewhere during July. Then I started to role steal all the way to 1 conduct summary within a span of two weeks,” he said. “Then after they implemented the stealing role report at the start of games I stopped and since then I’ve won 90% of my games playing unconventional heroes and being PMA (positive mental attitude)…Finally today after raising my conduct summary from 600 to 1.6K I am banned for six months,” he stated.

EternaLEnvY’s continued toxic behavior

EternaLEnvY snarked on Twitter after the ban, criticizing Valve for its latest matchmaking update, but most of the Dota 2 community wasn’t having it. One responder even told EternaLEnvY that he should stop ignoring warnings from Valve.

Though pro players routinely absorb abuse on social media, EternaLEnvY’s behavior in public matchmaking is certainly worthy of criticism. He is best known for rubberbanding between making slick plays and embarrassing himself, and also has a reputation for quitting on games.

He routinely destroys items when his team starts falling behind to guarantee a loss. Following the introduction of ranked matchmaking, he would queue for every role but demand to play carry each time.

Given his lack of repentance and the fact his main account still intact, odds are he will be back up to this in no time.
