Damwon Gaming is the only team to go undefeated in the 2019 League of Legends World Championship play-in group stage.

Damwon’s LoL Worlds 2019 run is going according to plan, as the team secured two victories and became the only team in the play-in to finish undefeated. In the second half of the round-robin, Damwon took down Flamengo eSports and Royal Youth in a dominant fashion.

Damwon destroys the competition at LoL Worlds

Both matches had a surprising thing in common. Damwon lost the early game.

Royal Youth found early advantages through the bottom lane, Dawmon’s weak side. The Turkish team found a way to punish Sin “Nuclear” Jeong-hyeon and Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee and get control of the lane.

Once again, Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon was the difference-maker for Damwon. The top laner repeated his greedy build on Vladimir and snowballed his gold advantage out of control.

In Damwon’s second game of the day, Flamengo’s Lee “Shrimp” Byeong-hoon and Han “Luci” Chang-hoon took over the early game. The jungler-support combination roamed across the map and terrorized Damwon’s laners.

Damwon held back until Heo “ShowMaker” Su was ready to go. ShowMaker on Leblanc partnered up with BeryL on Yuumi and together, they took over the map in a matter of minutes. That quickly turned the game around, as Flamengo couldn’t stop the mobile champion with the extra boost from Yuumi.

Damwon kept the pressure on and, powered up with the Baron buff, pushed decisively for the win. The Korean team secured the first seed and became the only team to finish this portion of the tournament undefeated.

Damwon living up to expectations at LoL Worlds 2019

Damwon has been living up to every expectation. The team is operating on a different level than the rest of the teams in the play-in. Despite that, Showmaker says the team is not playing at its maximum potential. The mid laner believes that Damwon is making many mistakes and that’s the reason why the enemies get to dominate the early game.

The player also admitted that starting in the play-in stage has been beneficial for the team. This is the first international appearance for Damwon, and the first time they have played outside of Korea. According to the mid laner, playing at the LEC Studio is helping the players to shake off any nerves.

Damwon will play the first game of the Knockout Stage on Monday, October 7, against Lowkey Esports. Check the rest of the Knockout Stage schedule here.
