DetonatioN FocusME upsets Splyce at LoL Worlds 2019
DetonatioN FocusMe pulled off a major upset versus Splyce at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship.
The LJL representative is not going down without a fight. After a slow start at Worlds, DFM bounced back against none other than Splyce from the LEC.
Splyce drops its first game at LoL Worlds 2019
According to mid laner Kyohei "Ceros" Yoshida, the team changed its mindset and is thinking about the matches on stage as another scrim in order to stay relaxed and focused. The strategy paid off and DFM is still in contention for a spot in the Knockout Stage.
Splyce played around the objectives and vision control. The first sign that the match would favor DFM came with a solo kill by Shunsuke "Evi" Murase in the top lane over Tamás "Vizicsacsi" Kiss.
Evi was playing as Gnar while Vizicsacsi locked in his signature Kennen. In lane, the battle between these Yordles is a skill matchup, where the best player will win the lane. That’s exactly what happened. Evi snowballed out of control and became too much for Splyce to handle.
The match was close until the very end. In team fights, DFM focused on zoning out Kasper "Kobbe" Kobberup and getting as much space as possible. The game was decided around the baron pit. DFM picked off Vizicsacsi and decided to turn it into a baron.
Splyce refused to give up the objective but without Kennen’s initiation and damage, Splyce didn’t have real engaging options.
DFM focused on Kobbe and took down everyone else in their way. The two surviving members of Splyce limped away while DFM took the baron.
DFM was determined to end the game in one push. The team set up camp outside Splyce’s base and utilized every minion wave to push a little further into enemy territory.
Splyce had one more chance to save the game. Vizicsacsi jumped in and Evi was waiting for him. The top laner denied the initiation one final time.
DFM took the enemies down one by one, and in the end it was only Andrei "Xerxe" Dragomir protecting the base. DFM went for one more kill, destroyed the enemy nexus, and won its first game at Worlds.
