Damwon Gaming destroys Flamengo, stays undefeated at LoL Worlds 2019
Damwon Gaming finished day two of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship undefeated thanks to a win over Flamengo eSports.
Damwon entered the play-in stage as a favorite to advance, and the team is living up to those expectations by adding a win over Brazilian champion Flamengo to its earlier victory over Royal Youth. Damwon is ending the first half of the round-robin undefeated and is looking like a clear contender for a spot at the main event.
Damwon beats Flamengo in Worlds 2019 through the top lane
Damwon drafted a composition with roaming options in the form of jungle Taliyah and Pyke. Flamengo went for comfort with engaging options, with the only questionable pick being Aatrox in the top lane. Aatrox was recently nerfed, and unlike Akali who still has some power in her, he’s no longer a viable pick.
Jang "Nuguri" Ha-gwon and Heo "ShowMaker" Su swapped lanes so the Renekton could go head-to-head with Aatrox. Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu spent most of his time around the top lane, attack Leonardo "Robo" Souza every time he walked into lane.
Flamengo still looked competitive, forcing team fights and getting kills. That strategy would’ve worked if they were able to turn those kills into objectives. Instead, Flamengo invested time and resources into getting a kill or two without getting a full return.
In the top lane, ShowMaker made Robo’s life miserable. Renekton came online earlier than anyone else and that would make the difference between the teams. Flamengo was relying on Felipe "brTT" Gonçalves for damage in team fights, but it soon became impossible for him to deal with ShowMaker.
Damwon saw the opportunity to go for the baron and pulled the trigger. Flamengo couldn’t contest but they had a chance to catch enemies on their way out. What started as a favorable team fight for Flamengo, turned into a blood bath in seconds. ShowMaker fought two enemies while the rest of his team took care of Flamengo’s backline.
Damwon pushed into the base and fought under the turrets. In the final seconds of the game, Damwon went for a fountain dive to kill Robo one last time.
