New Mac OS update may end League of Legends client installations
Developer Riot Games has announced that Mac users might not be able to download League of Legends after the latest operating system update.
Mac users will be receiving an update to their devices’ operating systems at some point during the month of October. Riot Games has announced that once the new OS 10.15. update named Catalina has been installed, a user may no longer be able to install the League of Legends client.
The announcement reassures players that if they already have the client installed when they update, they should have no issues.
“Existing players with League of Legends on their Macs will not have any problems or changes with League of Legends when Catalina rolls out. The game will patch normally and players will be able to play as they have been!” Riot Games said.
Riot gives advice to League of Legends mac players
The advice for anyone who has a friend on Mac that might be curious to try League of Legends or the popular new Teamfight Tactics, or for current players wishing to install the game on another Mac device, is to make sure they do so before upgrading their operating system.
Players should take note of when their machine is set to update as Riot confirmed they do not currently know when Catalina will be able to support the League of Legends client.
“We do not currently have an estimated timeline for when Catalina will be able to support League of Legends, but we will update players as we get a clearer look at its release date.” Riot Games said.
The Mac player base is far smaller than the player base for Windows. In a forum post
earlier in the year discussing Apple’s plans, a Riot Games employee confirmed the company’s intent to provide a better experience for Mac users.
“We know the Mac user experience has been pretty spotty in the past and we truly apologize and thank everyone for your patience and support. We’re planning on diving in and fixing some long standing issues as well as improving overall quality of life,” they said.
Apple has not yet confirmed when the new update will be made available.
