SumaiL's new Dota 2 team has him changes roles, team up with brother

The team that competed as Newbee at The International 2019 has a new lineup and will soon have a new sponsor.

According to team manager Jack “KBBQ” Chen, the Quincy Crew is together once again with an altered lineup. Quinn "CCnC" Callahan, Yawar "YawaR" Hassan, and Arif "MSS" Anwar will remain together. Rounding out the lineup are Avery "SVG" Silverman and, surprisingly, Syed “SumaiL” Hassan.

The team will technically revert to using the Quincy Crew name that was used before the squad signed with Forward Gaming in 2018, but KBBQ suggested that the team will confirm a sponsor in the near future.

The lineup is a star-studded one, bringing together a slew of high-end American talent. It also unites brothers YawaR and SumaiL on one lineup for the first time.

There is some awkwardness there in terms of the lineup, however. KBBQ’s tweet suggests that the SumaiL will be moving to a carry position while CCnC will remain the team’s mid laner. That moves YawaR to the offlane position, a role he historically has played very sparingly.

Still, there is an overwhelming amount of talent on this roster and it could be positioned for big things.

SumaiL’s new team could be positioned for success

SumaiL and his new team should be lined up to make noise quite quickly. The North American Dota 2 scene is in an uncertain position at the moment as teams scramble to retool their rosters and new squads emerge.

Longtime North American kings Evil Geniuses will need to reestablish themselves as the top team in the region after benching SumaiL and offlaner Gustav "s4" Magnusson. Past that are a number of other teams that are interesting, but unproven.

The Fighting Pepegas team led by Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao has several high-end players that could make noise, but it’s anyone’s guess as to how long they will stick around for. Meanwhile, J.Storm is returning once again, but the team’s roster continues to morph after a disappointing debut season. Beastcoast and Michael "ixmike88" Ghannam are also returning, but their long-term prospects are not strong.

The Quincy Crew would likely rank as the second-best North American team on their potential alone, and should be able to easily step into the number one spot if the new Evil Geniuses roster doesn’t find its footing.

The team will likely make its debut in the qualifiers to the Dota Summit 11 and MDL Chengdu Major, which run from October 5 to October 10.
