Borderlands 3’s first free event is coming in October, just in time for Halloween.

Bloody Harvest gives Vault Hunters access to an event-specific map with new monsters and bosses by earning a new currency, Hecktoplasm.

As players travel throughout the galaxy, they’ll encounter Haunted enemies that spawn Ghosts once they’re killed. Borderlands’ official press release calls the Ghosts “aggressive,” and outlines the new Terror debuff that comes along with them. This not only makes it harder to see, but weakens weapon handling, accuracy, and spread.

Defeating these enemies earns the player Hecktoplasm, which can be turned over to Maurice on the Sanctuary III for a ride to the Bloody Harvest map.

Bloody Harvest map comes to Borderlands 3

Getting to the new map is only half the battle.

Once players have reached the Bloody Harvest map, they’ll encounter brand new threats. This includes the Rakk-O’-Lantern, a winged, grinning pumpkin that breathes fire, and Maliwan goons stationed in graveyards. Players will also see rivers of blood, which run through Ratch-infested pits.

But the real danger comes in the form of the Baron of the Bloody Harvest, Captain Haunt. This bad guy looks like Captain Traunt, only “a bit bonier, complete with some spooky new powers.”

The huge elemental Maliwan soldier is ready to put up “one hell of a fight.” In the first episode of the Borderlands Show, the hosts say that the game’s bosses are pretty hard to face alone and the Baron of the Bloody Harvest is no different.

Naturally, players that participate have some loot to look forward to as well.

Bloody Harvest introduces two new guns, a grenade mod, and a shield. The shield will help counter the new Terror mechanic.

Exclusive Halloween loot will also be dropped by Haunted enemies, Ghosts, and Captain Haunt. Items found by players my contain Terror-based modifiers.

Finally, new cosmetics will be available during the Bloody Harvest event. This includes an ECHO Device Skin, a Weapon Trinket, and a skin for each Vault Hunter. The skin is also applied to Moze’s mech Iron Bear and FI4K’s vicious pets.

The ultimate loot is a Global Weapon Skin, which is available to players kill that kill enough of the galaxy’s new undead residents.

Bloody Harvest is first of many Borderlands 3 events

In an interview on the first episode of the Borderlands Show, creative director Paul Sage admitted that the event is still being worked on and some minor things may be subject to change.

Borderlands 3 was released on September 13, making the game just a week old. The developers only recently finished up working on the main campaign, and are now quickly turning around to create more fresh content.

It’s a lot of work, but Sage stated he believes it needed to be done.

“That’s what everybody wants. We knew people would consume so much of the game so fast,” he explained to the hosts.

All three men marveled at how far along players are with the game. Sage noted that he had watched some Borderlands 3 streams and was not surprised to see how far people have gotten, and how many dedicated fans have already completed the game. For those people, Sage wanted to ensure that more content was coming to them.

The spooky, supernatural event is coming in October, and appears to be remaining throughout the entirety of the month. Keep an eye out for the second episode of The Borderlands Show, which will arrive near the end of October on Borderlands’ official Twitch channel. The stream will include a closer look at the Maliwan Takedown event.
