A new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive update has arrived and in addition to adding some fixes, it gives fans some things to look forward to in the near future.
For the most part, the latest update tackled technical issues. Included in this is a new ability to cap FPS at as low as 49 and some unspecified stability fixes. An Overwatch-style demo playback option has also been added for GOTV through a newly added command.
One welcome fix that will impact all players are improvements to the weapon pickup function.
CSGO has long had issues with weapons or other items becoming trapped within areas that are inaccessible to players, sometimes while still in full view. This is because of “player clipbrushes,” invisible surfaces that serve to allow players the ability to smoothly walk over or along uneven surfaces like staircases or debris.
While players interacted with them the same way they would a real surface, dropped weapons could actually fall through them. In some cases, this could result in the dropped items becoming trapped and being made inaccessible to players who may want to pick them up.
Valve has taken multiple steps to fix this in the past, but none of the changes have completely erased the problem. One can only hope things get fixed with this latest CSGO update which specifically is said to tackle the problem.
The most noteworthy change is the deployment of new AI for bots in deathmatch. This new AI will use an “experimental decision framework based on behavior trees.” The improvements have been very well received by CSGO players that have practiced with them, noting that they feel far more similar to playing with actual humans than they previously did. These improvements give hope to players that this may be applied to the bots used in standard competitive game modes when a player disconnects and is briefly replaced by an AI substitute.
Finally, an updated radar for Vertigo rounds out the list of changes.
