Godsent returns to esports by merging with The Final Tribe

A recognizable esports brand is making a surprise return.

Godsent is being resurrected by Swedish esports organization The Final Tribe. A Counter-Strike: Global Offensive brand largely built around former Fnatic players, Godsent previously ceased operations in 2018.

“The Final Tribe…today announces the official merger with the Swedish CSGO brand Godsent, founded in 2016 by Swedish three time major winner Markus “Pronax” Wallsten,” the organization said in a statement. “The Final Tribe acquires all Godsent assets, rights, and accounts in exchange for newly emitted shares in the company given to key stakeholders in Godsent.”

The merger will see TFT CEO Ludwig Sandgren remain at the helm of the company while Henrik Denebrandt will join as deputy CEO. Pronax will manage the Godsent CSGO division.

The Final Tribe currently competes in Dota 2, League of Legends, and Hearthstone. It also recently fielded a Swedish CSGO team, though the rosters split from the organization on September 1. It is currently unclear how Godsent will approach returning to CSGO.

What happened to Godsent?

Godsent was founded by Pronax and other investors in 2016 following the player’s split from Fnatic. Its inaugural roster included Pronax’s teammates from Team Ancient. Throughout much of its existence it traded players with Fnatic, adding the likes of Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson and Jesper “JW” Wecksell before swapping them back.

Though it added many great Fnatic players over time, it couldn’t quite find Fnatic’s level of success. After a solid debut year, the team went into a decline in 2017 after an unremarkable performance at the ELEAGUE Atlanta Major.

The organization showed some signs of life in early 2018, but the transfer of Pronax to Digital Chaos and the end of support from RFRSH put the organization’s future in question. In May 2018 its roster was transferred to Red Reserve, seemingly marking the end of its existence.

What led the two sides together is unclear, but with Swedish esports in something of a rut at this time there is an undeniable opportunity for them.
