Freakazoid goes public with professional CSGO return tease
Steven R. September 5, 2019
Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir might be getting back in the game.
The veteran player took to Twitter and simply stated, “I’m coming back.” Though he did not offer any further information on his plans, this suggests that he is set to return to professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
This is welcome news for Freakazoid’s fans.
Though he is best known for his one-year run with Cloud9, Freakazoid has been a steady presence in the North American scene for far longer than that. He began playing professionally in Counter-Strike: Source in 2009 and transitioned to Global Offensive when the game launched in 2012.
He joined Cloud9 in 2015 and left for Echo Fox a year later. He later split time between streaming and competing with a variety of teams, most notably Swole Patrol. In Januarym he found a new and seemingly long-term home in Ghost Gaming. The team enjoyed modest success but was released in June when the organization dissolved its CSGO division.
In the time since, Freakazoid’s CSGO efforts have largely been dedicated to social media. He has streamed on Twitch regularly and has been posting highlights to YouTube. This led many to believe that he was leaving the professional scene behind in order to become a full-time streamer.
But if he was, those plans have apparently changed.
What team will Freakazoid play for?
So where will Freakazoid end up? There are plenty of potential landing spots.
The North American scene is seeing a number of staple teams undergo wholesale changes while other organizations are planning to return to the region. Complexity Gaming teased a major overhaul of its roster following the team’s flop at the StarLadder Berlin Major. Chaos Esports Club has released its Swedish roster and is planning to move to North America, and 100 Thieves is set to return to CSGO after three years spent away.
Freakazoid may not land with any of them, but those changes will undoubtedly create plenty of new opportunities.
