PapaSmithy to leave the LCK, his next destination unknown
UPDATE: PapaSmithy has agreed to become the general manager at 100 Thieves.
League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) English caster Chris “PapaSmithy” is leaving the Korean league after over four years spent broadcasting in the region.
PapaSmithy is an Australian color commentator that has been on the LCK screen since 2015. He became one of the most favored League of Legends casters as a part of the LCK English cast, but it seems that fans won’t be listening to his voice during LCK matches anymore.
With the LCK 2019 Summer Playoffs concluding, PapaSmithy turned to Twitter to share with his fans the finals between SK Telecom T1 and Griffin on August 31 was the last LCK finals he will cast. He told fans that he is ending in the same venue where he started four years ago, casting alongside former LCK and current Overwatch League broadcasters Christopher "MonteCristo" Mykles and Erik "DoA" Lonnquist.
He ended his LCK journey with Brendan "Valdes" Valdes and Nick "LS" De Cesare as English cast members, sharing that he will carry great memories from his LCK experience.
Where is PapaSmithy casting next?
As soon as he shared the news, many of his fans were quick to conclude that he will be moving on to cast the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), however, PapaSmithy confirmed that will not be the case. He did so by retweeting a fellow Riot Games’ caster Trevor "Quickshot" Henry’s, who replied to one of the fans by simply writing “It’s not LEC.” He later confirmed the same over Reddit.
The assumption of PapaSmithy switching to the LEC comes after he sat on its analyst desk during Week 7, which fans answered with enthusiasm.
PapaSmithy steadily gained a following over the years with his insightful commentary on games and his dedication to studying League of Legends at the professional level. He has become renowned for being among the foremost on-air experts in the game.
While some fans are excited to see what he does next, others don’t want to see him leave the LCK. It remains unclear which league he will be casting in the future, but PapaSmithy is surely staying under Riot’s wing as one of the fan-favorite League of Legends casters. He told his fans he hopes to share his plans for the next year soon.
