shroud happy to stream WoW Classic even if viewers are turned off
Twitch streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is best known for his entertaining streams of popular FPS games, but even the former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive legend has been lured in by the release of World of Warcraft Classic.
shroud is the second most popular streamer on the platform with over 6.8 million followers, and he regularly attracts over 20,000 concurrent viewers. He is second on Twitch only to competitive Fortnite player Turner “Tfue” Tenney.
WoW Classic was released on August 26 and since then the game has been the main feature of shroud’s streams. He saw a surge of viewers for the first stream of WoW Classic, but since then with the novelty perhaps having worn out for his FPS-loving viewers, those numbers have steeply declined.
When a viewer in the Twitch chat asked him if he was concerned that streaming WoW was harming his viewership, he was relaxed in his response.
“Not really, I figured I would not get the views I normally get I would not get the donations I usually get, I would not get the subs I usually get,” shroud said.
He continued to say that he is streaming the MMORPG because he enjoys playing it and will stream it for any of his fans who would like to watch him play a game outside of his usual repertoire.
It remains to be seen if shroud will lose a significant number of followers as a result of only streaming WoW Classic for the time being. Even if this were the case, it seems likely that should shroud return to streaming FPS games, then those disinterested in WoW would return to watch him.
shroud in the past has done sponsored streams for newly released games and played only those for significant periods of time, doing little if any damage to his overall long-term viewership.
But in the short-term, it seems that fans of Shroud may have to put up with him playing WoW Classic if they want to watch their favorite streamer in action.
