G2 Esports starts strong at StarLadder Berlin Major, goes 2-0

Steven R. August 24, 2019

G2 Esports is off to a strong start at the StarLadder Berlin Major.

The enduring French squad ended day one of the Challengers Stage with a 2-0 record. The team scored impressive victories over TYLOO and DreamEaters.

G2 started its day with a big showing versus TYLOO. The Chinese squad played a solid all-around game but were consistently flustered by heroics from the individual members of G2.

After ceding a few early rounds, Kenny "kennyS" Schrub helped G2 secure early momentum in the game by notching eight kills within three rounds. TYLOO started to regain its footing towards the end of the first half, but then François "AmaNEk" Delaunay was there to do the same. When TYLOO finally managed to take three consecutive rounds, Audric "JaCkz" Jug stepped up and posted three triple-kill rounds in a row.

TYLOO had its moments during the game, but G2’s ability to come through in the clutch propelled them to a 16-10 win.

From there, G2 moved on to a showdown with DreamEaters. Though the Russian team entered the match feeling proud after a major upset of NRG Esports, they couldn’t make lightning strike the same place twice with another upset win.

G2 vs. DreamEaters played out very similarly to G2 vs. TYLOO, as DreamEaters managed to find rounds but couldn’t put together any kind of sustained winning streak. The key difference between the two games is that while most of G2’s roster had some moments against TYLOO, Richard "shox" Papillon took it upon himself to carry G2 to victory against DreamEaters.

Shox found kills in 12 out of the 15 rounds in the first half and went into an even higher gear in the second half. G2 took the game 16-9, with Shox finishing at 29-11.

With day one over for the team, they find themselves at 2-0 and just one win away from advancing to the StarLadder Berlin Legends Stage. They will kick off day two with a best-of-three series against Mousesports with the winner advancing on.
