The grand final for the 2019 League of Legends LCS Summer Split has been decided. Cloud9 will face Team Liquid for the biggest domestic trophy in North American League of Legends..

Team Liquid enters the finals having defeated Clutch Gaming in a series that went all the way to its fifth and final game. Clutch Gaming defied expectations by taking two games from the reigning LCS champions and Mid-Season Invitational finalists. Clutch finally fell in game five after proving unable to deal with the reappearance of the Sona/Taric bot lane, masterfully played by Team Liquid.

Cloud9 had a far simpler route to the finals with a dominant 3-1 victory over Counter Logic Gaming. CLG did look dangerous, having won game three and starting strong in game 4, but Cloud9 prevented C:G from snowballing in the final game through strong Sylas teleport plays from mid laner Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer.

While both teams are undoubtedly focused on securing the LCS trophy, an added perk going into this match is that both teams have already qualified for the 2019 World Championship. The winner of the match will automatically qualify and the loser will still finish as the team with the most circuit points in the LCS, sending them through to the World Championship as well.

Team Liquid has accrued the most circuit points due to their 2019 spring split victory and their top seed qualification for the summer playoffs. Cloud9 had the second most points going into the semifinals as a result of their third-place finish in the spring playoffs and second seed qualification to the summer playoffs.

Team Liquid will be looking to win their record-setting fourth consecutive LCS title, potentially becoming the first team to win so many in a row. Cloud9 will be looking to win an LCS title for the first time since their 3-0 victory over TSM in the 2018 summer finals. Superstar ADC Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng will secure his seventh domestic title if Team Liquid do claim the trophy.

The Cloud9 vs. Team Liquid rematch from summer 2018 will take place August 25 at 3pm CST.
