2023 is the year of the rabbit, and Pokemon is commemorating it with an increased spawn of Buneary and Bunnelby. The Lunar New Year event will run through January 23 at 8 pm in various local times.

Alongside Buneary and Bunnelby, players will find these fire Pokemon more frequently in the wild.

  • Ponyta
  • Magmar
  • Magikarp
  • Slugma
  • Numel
  • Combee
  • Fennekin

Players will also gain access to Lucky Wishes, a Timed Research. Players can focus on hatching eggs, collecting stardust, or catching Pokemon.

Pokemon Go Lunar New Year Event Bonuses

The event bonuses include:

  • Increased chance of encountering Shiny Darumaka
  • Increased chance for Lucky Pokemon in trades
  • Increased chance to become Lucky Friends
  • 2× Stardust from opening Gifts
  • One additional Special Trade for a maximum of two per day

Players also get specific bonuses depending on the path they choose on the Lucky Wishes Timed Research. They might get Lucky Eggs, items, and the opportunity to encounter Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, Bunnelby, Magikarp, Azumarill, and Combusken.

Players can only pick one path in the Lucky Wishes Timed Research.

Pokemon Go Lunar New Year Event Raids and Eggs

The Lunar New Year Event also brings special bonuses when it comes to raids and hatching eggs.

This is the best opportunity to hatch 7 km Eggs. Players have increased chances to hatch Chingling, Riolu, Darumaka, Galarian Darumaka, or Scraggy. Perhaps the most interesting Pokemon in this list is Riolu, the pre-evolution of Lucario.

Having a Riolu is the easiest way to get Lucario. Riolu is not available in the wild, it can only be hatched. This is the perfect opportunity to find one and turn it into your buddy. You will need 50 candies to evolve your little Riolu into Lucario, one of the rarest Pokemon in the entire game.

During the event, there will be opportunities to catch some interesting Pokemon. The one-star raids will feature Hisuian Voltorb, Shinx, Darumaka, and Galarian Darumaka. There is a chance of the last one being shiny. The three-star raids will feature Flareon, Shuckle, Blaziken, Druddigon, and Diggersby. Only Shuckle and Druddigon have a chance of being shiny.

The Pokemon featured in the five-star raids is Regice, one of the Legendary Titans from Hoenn. There is a chance for Regice to be shiny, so fighting in as many five-star raids as possible is a must during the event.

Last but not least are the Mega Raids that will feature Mega Lopunny with a chance of being shiny. Loppuny is the evolution of Buneary, a Normal type Pokemon from Sinnoh. Mega Lopunny is one of the few Pokemon with Mega Evolutions in the game. In this form, Mega Lopunny is a dual Normal and Fighting type.

The Lunar New Year event in Pokemon Go ends on January 23.
