Riot Games shared an update o n state of League of Legends' alternative game modes.
The Summoner’s Rift might be the main game mode in League of Legends, but is not the only one getting attention from the developer. Riot Games’ lead designer shared a big update about the alternative game modes and future plans.
Teamfight Tactics is a permanent mode
League of Legends’ auto-battler mode has been very successful, so the developer decided to make it permanent. Teamfight Tactics is now a permanent part of the League of Legends universe.
According to the designers, the game will receive updates with every patch. The updates will include new champions, such as the Hextech units that are coming in Patch 9.16. Each ranked season will run through the year.
Twisted Treeline gets removed
Riot Games decided to retire the Twisted Treeline mode. According to the post, the three-versus-three mode doesn’t have a consistent player base, which leads to longer queue times, poor matchmaking, and an overall bad experience.
After attempting various updates and changes, Riot Games decided to give up on Twisted Treeline and retire the mode at the end of the season. The most hardcore Twisted Treeline players will receive exclusive rewards by the time the game mode is gone in honor of their time spent with the mode.
URF and other game modes
URF is another game mode that gets lots of attention from players. Riot Games knows how much the players enjoy playing URF, so they are bringing it back one more time in 2019. The announcement didn’t include a specific date or for how long would it be made available.
ARAM will continue to receive balance changes for the remainder of the season. This mode is popular among casual players that are not invested in climbing the ranks. The in-game events that took place this year showed Riot Games ARAM’s true potential, so they will continue to invest in this mode.
Nexus Blitz will return in 2020. This game mode had a good run but it wasn’t enough to make it permanent. Riot Games said they would bring it back and offer exclusive rewards for its temporary appearances.
