The London Spitfire pulled off one of the most creative plays in Overwatch League history during their match against the Guangzhou Charge.

At the start of map three on Blizzard World, Ji-hyeok “birdring” Kim used the teleporter ability on Symmetra to quickly transport superstar DPS player Joon-yeong “Profit” Park to the high ground. From there, Profit used his top-tier Widowmaker skills to take the head off the Charge’s flex support Jin-seo “Shu” Kim. The moment was instantly clipped and went viral on Twitch:

Following the play, Birdring, Profit, and Seung-Tae “Bdosin” Choi, who was amping Profit’s damage as Mercy, quickly switched heroes for a more feasible composition. The Spitfire went on to win the map and take the series 3-1.

London Spitfire make and take great OWL plays

The London Spitfire seems to be a magnet for these kinds of crafty Widowmaker plays, for better or worse. One such play occurred in the quarterfinals of the Overwatch League’s inaugural playoffs.

Playing against the Los Angeles Gladiators and Lane “Surefour” Roberts, the Spitfire wound up being shot top pieces out of nowhere. Surefour stayed in spawn while the rest of the team pushed into the back bridge of King’s Row, opening up the Spitfire to a massive flank.

The Gladiators took the series, but only won the battle, not the war. The Spitfire got the last laugh by sweeping the Gladiators in the next two series. From there, they advanced to the semifinals and wound up winning the first OWL championship.

London currently leads Stage 4 of Season 2 with a 3-0 record, and finished in the semifinals of Stage 2. The Spitfire looked like a shell of their former selves while playing in the much-reviled GOATs meta, but appear to be back at home after the 2-2-2 lock.

With Profit on Widowmaker and other hitscan DPS heroes, the sky’s the limit for the reigning Overwatch League champions.
